About Wild Whetstones and Kaji Kaizen Blade Shop
My name is Gabriel J. Warren, and I founded Wild Whetstones in 2013.
What began as a small community project—sharpening straight razors and knives—quickly evolved into cutting and crafting my own natural whetstones. Over the last decade, that passion has grown into this website, a YouTube channel, and a sharpening community of more than 9,500 members.
My work has helped tens of thousands of people worldwide sharpen with more confidence and far less frustration. I teach everyone—from beginners maintaining their household knives to professionals servicing hundreds of clients—how to get exceptional results with a simple, reliable sharpening setup.
My Philosophy: Less Is More
After working with every type of stone on the market, I discovered that most people don’t need full sets of synthetic stones. In fact, 2–3 well-chosen stones can handle nearly every sharpening task when used with the right techniques. High-quality natural stones, especially the dense and durable varieties I specialize in, offer a lifetime of performance without the constant wear, cracking, or replacement cycle of many man-made stones.
What I Do
I source and craft natural whetstones, teach efficient sharpening methods, and help people avoid the common pitfalls that waste time, money, and effort. Whether you're sharpening knives, razors, woodworking tools, or starting a sharpening business, my goal is to make the process effective, economical, and enjoyable.
Why Natural Stones
Natural whetstones offer a unique balance of speed, polish, and longevity. A single high-quality stone can produce multiple grit ranges depending on its surface preparation—reducing the need for large, expensive synthetic sets. For most users, pairing a diamond plate, a 1000-grit stone, and a fine natural whetstone is all it takes to achieve professional-level edges.
